Though it may not seem like it, the end of winter is near. Until that glorious moment when the temperatures start crawling out of the frigid basement, the Middletown Township Board of Supervisors would like to remind residents of the importance of moving vehicles off the road during snow emergencies.
โThe public works crews have done a great job with the roads,โ said board member William Oettinger, kicking off the supervisor commenting period near the end of the February 17 meeting. โBut driving around the neighborhoods, I still see cars on the streets. It only makes the plow driversโ jobs more difficult when they have to avoid hitting the vehicles.โ

Oettingerโs remark were echoed individually by the rest of the board, each commending the departmentโs efforts to clear the roads of snow while chastising homeowners who fail to follow procedures when the township activates its snow emergency alerts.
Last weekโs meeting also finalized the approval of the townshipโs redrawn flood plain maps. The new configuration follows the recommendations made by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which will use the revised maps in its Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning program, which determines the eligibility of properties to enter the National Flood Insurance Program.
โThis something all municipalities are doing, and Middletown is no different,โ said township engineer Larry Young. โWe have to do it to make sure that the people in those areas can receive the flood insurance.โ

The board also approved the awarding of a $57,397 bid to Eastern Earthmovers, LLC, to perform work on the Maple Avenue Stormwater Project. According to Young, the project will correct drainage problems at the Maple and Cloverdale section.
โThe board will continue to address stormwater issues in the township as part of its efforts to improve out infrastructure,โ said board chairperson Pat Mallon. โThere will be more good things to come.โ
