Middletown police said the boy who was hurt when his foot got caught in the escalator at the Oxford Valley Mall Sunday afternoon was flown from St. Mary Medical Center to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to be treated for his injuries.

Volunteers from the Fairless Hills, Langhorne-Middletown and Penndel fire companies used hydraulic tools to free the boy’s foot, which was wedged about half way between the top and the bottom on the escalator, Langhorne-Middletown Chief Frank Farry said.
“That was horrifying,” Jamie Bonat wrote on Facebook. “That mother was terrified. I’ve never seen someone so afraid and not know what to do. She couldn’t walk away and hit the button herself and she couldn’t let go of her son.”
Witnesses said first responders were able to free the boy fairly quickly.

The child's condition was unknown as of press time, but LevittownNow.com confirmed several fire crews along with medics and police rushed to Oxford Valley Mall and helped free the child.
Emergency crews first responded to the mall shortly after 4:10 p.m.
Police Chief Joseph Bartorilla said he had limited information but he confirmed an incident did take place on the escalator. He also confirmed the child appeared injured.
The incident happened at the escalator near the Sears court, according to two shoppers in the mall.
