A Middletown fire chief is concerned about phony fundraising calls.

So far, one call requesting money for the nonexistent Middletown Township Firefighter Death Benefits Fund has been reported, Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company Chief Frank Farry said late Wednesday night.

The person who received the call did not give any money and called Farry, who contacted Middletown police.

Farry said no fire company in the township fundraises via telephone calls.

Firefighters in Middletown are covered by death benefit insurance along with state and federal benefits, Farry said.

The scam call reportedly came from a phone number with a local area code, the fire chief said.

If you have information on the scam, police can be contacted at 215-949-1000.
