McIlhinney Wins 3rd Term In State Senate

Incumbent Republican state Senator Chuck McIlhinney beat out Democratic challenger Steve Cickay in the race to represent the 10th Senate District.

McIlhinney received 49,585 votes and Cickay received 27,949 votes, according to unofficial county tabulations.

Tuesday’s win will mark McIlhinney’s third term in his seat.

McIlhinney spoke for just a minute during a Tuesday night event in Doylestown. He took the time to thank his wife and for her continued support through the challenges of running once again for Senate.

The 47-year-old member of the Senate Law and Justice Committee said voters picked him because they liked his stances on the issues.

Cickay had little campaign funding but worked hard to gain votes. An avid runner, he often took part in races as part of the his campaign. On Tuesday afternoon, Cickay worked to impress voters outside the polling place in Tullytown.

“Those who supported our campaign have tried to shine the progressive light into the darkness and to them I will be eternally grateful,” he said in a statement online. “We hope that our light and intensity will inspire the people of District 10, if not today than tomorrow, to choose a forward direction for the betterment of all our citizens.”

In summer, reports indicated Democrats tried to replace Cickay with another candidate. Those efforts, which were reportedly backed by former Gov. Ed Rendell failed.
