The staggered August 27 and August 28 start date for students worked out well this year and will be recommended for next year, Copeland told the school board earlier this week.

The superintendent also spoke of the district’s kindergarten enrollment. He said the district’s new full-day program featured at least 100 kids more than were anticipated.
Copeland credited last-minute enrollment for some students as adding a last minute bump to the kindergarten program.
Parents and school staff said starting the school year a few days before the traditional start date helped students adjust.
