The loose dogs lead to the fight where the small dog was injured and needed medical treatment. The grandmother of the staffordshire terriers’ owner lost the top portion of her finger, multiple sources close to the investigation said on Wednesday. While trying to pry the dogs apart with her hands, one gained control of the situation and clamped down, removing the tip of the woman’s finger and removing her nail.

The small lap dog looked to be similar to a terrier, a neighbor said.

The incident, which took place on the 300 block of Jefferson Avenue, started when the owner of the small dog was at the corner of the street walking and ignited the wrath of the staffordshire terriers, who at time were behind a wooden fence, one source with knowledge of the events said.

There were reports that the second staffordshire terrier was attacked, injured and possibly killed, but confirmation of that was not available as of press time.

A neighbor said he was told the dog that bit the woman has an attack history from Florida. The family that owns the dog only moved in to the borough within the last two weeks, neighbors said.

Borough Manager James Dillon said the incident was a police matter and that Chief Aronold Porter would be informed of the request for comment. As of 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, this publication had yet to hear from police officials.

Next-door neighbor Doug McCay, who has two toddlers at home, said, “my wife is afraid to out ย there.”

McKay added that he met with Borough officials Tuesday afternoon, sometime after the incident, to ask what are the borough codes with regards to “vicious dogs.”

“We’re talking about the safety of my kids and wife” as well as the public at large, he said. “Something has to be done about this, especially if that dog does have a prior attack history.”

Borough officials confirmed to LevittownNow.com that in the case of a dog with a prior reported attack history, signs warning the public of the safety issue are required to be displayed warning the community of the potential danger.
