Bucks County authorities are warning of an extortion scam that has been reported by several people recently.
“The callers state that the person receiving the call would have a warrant issued for them if they didn’t purchase bonds. The callers have asked for a credit card number and provided the victim with a phone number and a location to pick-up the bonds,” a press release from county officials reads.

Authorities say the victims would go to the location to pick up the bonds and discover the location does not exist.
“Bucks County Sheriff Edward “Duke” Donnelly advises residents that the Sheriff’s office does NOT call people regarding the existence of warrants. The Bucks County Sheriff’s Office also does NOT solicit money or collect money regarding any type of warrant, for any reason. These phone calls are being conducted by scam artists who are in no way connected to the Bucks County Sheriff’s Office,” county officials said in a written statement.
If you’ve received a similar call, it’s a scam, officials said Thursday afternoon.

The District Attorney’s office is gathering information and has picked up the investigation.
The phone number the calls came from is not associated with the sheriff’s department, according to a press release.
