The power situation in the Levittown area was improving by late  Friday afternoon.

According to PECO data, about 12,500 customers were still without electricity in the Levittown area. Throughout Bucks County, just under 60,000 customers were still in the dark.

As the power came back on, the Red Cross announced the emergency shelter at Maple Point Middle School in Middletown was closing up at 6 p.m. A Red Cross spokesperson said about 25 people stayed overnight Thursday at the shelter.

PECO officials have said they hope to have the majority of customers back on the system by late Friday night. Some scattered outages could linger through the weekend.

Utility workers from PECO and around the country and even Canada remain in the area and are working to restore power. LevittownNow.com reader Cindy Johnson spotted nearly 20 electric crews from the midwest staging off New Falls Road.

Generators were  still being used to power some area traffic signals that would otherwise be dark. However, most parts of the area appeared to be back to normal.

With branches down in yards and on the sides of roads, you can expect homeowners and landscapers to be busy over the weekend.
