Days before Falls Township law enforcement began a crackdown on squatters and crime in the community’s trailer parks, police arrested a homeless man inside a vacant trailer home.

Police met with a maintenance supervisor for the Pennwood Crossing Community, which is made up of about a thousand mobile homes, last Friday. The supervisor went with police as they inspected some of the 100 abandoned dwellings.

At a trailer on Hollis Drive, Richard Zupkusky, 19, was found inside and taken into custody, court documents say. He was found inside the locked mobile home and told police he has stayed there the past few nights because he is homeless.

Inside of the bedroom where the 19-year-old was found, suspected heroin residue was found in a bottle cap along with tools used to disassemble air conditioner units, court papers say. In recent months, thefts of copper from plumbing and air conditions has been reported along with increased drug activity.

Zupkusky has needle marks on both his arms and admitted to abusing heroin, police said.

Zupkusky was arraigned before District Judge Jan Vislosky on charges of felony trespass and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was sent to county jail on 10 percent of $75,000 bail.

According to court records, Zupkusky was arraigned on burglary and related charges out of Bensalem later on Friday. His bail in that case was set at 10 percent of $150,000.
