Boy, 7, Has Serious Injuries After Being Struck by Car

A 7-year-old boy was seriously hurt when he was struck by a car that was heading southbound on Woodbourne Road across from Wellington Drive in Middletown Thursday evening, police said.

The boy’s leg bone was exposed and he suffered swelling and other injuries to his head. He was rushed to St. Mary Medical Center in serious condition, according to police.

Local Food Pantries Benefit from Generosity

Officer Mark McLeod said the boy lives in the area and had just crossed the street with his grandfather and sister when he darted back into the road to get a ball left on the other side of the busy street. The accident happened at around 5:10 p.m.

The driver of the car was uninjured and stopped.

The boy was taken to the hospital by an ground ambulance with a police escort. The emergency vehicles went through Core Creek Park and used a special back entrance to get to the hospital due to heavy traffic on area roads.
