Volunteers came out to help clear the Racquet Club fire recovery center at Walter Miller Elementary School in Middletown.
State Representative Frank Farry, who organized a massive donation drive for the victims, requested volunteers at the school to help sort and load the excess donations on Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. By Thursday afternoon, most of the items were already cleared out.

Victims of the four-alarm blaze, which left about 100 people homeless, were still going to the school to receive donations as of Wednesday night.
The excess donated items will be distributed to several local charities.

“There are probably no words good enough to express to this community,” fire victim Charles Rawls said, describing the outpouring of kindness following the blaze.
Farry said the turnout by the community beat any expectations.
B building resident Lorrie Wiliamson said she was so “amazed” by all the items donated and said she was thankful.
