Bristol Borough resident Lori Smith ย noticed PECO workers on Locust Street earlier this weekย and wondered ย about the work being performed there.
In an email exchange, Smith said it looked to her like they were putting in “more sensors and wells on the dead end part of the street.”

Concerned there might be an issue residents should be aware of Smith asked the PECO workers on site but wasn’t able to ascertain answers she deemed helpful.
A call to PECO Media Relations Representative Greg Smore helped though.
He said the work is part of an ongoing manufacture gas plant remediation project that’s taking place at 17 sites in the five county area.

“There’s no danger here,” he said.
Smore explained as PECO has grown its purchased sites that were gas plants in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s which produced energy for surrounding communities, such as the Locust Street site.
Those sites usually require cleanup just so they are in order, he said.

“Tar and other materials at the sites are tested and cleaned up to insure safety.” ย What ย Smith observed at the Bristol site was remediation and cleanup, said Smore.
“PECO does this voluntarily at locations its purchased,” he said.
The project coordinator was unavailable Friday, however, Smore said, he would give LevittowNow a call for a more detailed explanation about the work taking place in the coming week.
