

Firefighters on Thanksgiving morning rescued a driver whose car went off I-295 and plunged down an embankment at the Mill Creek in Middletown Township.

The crash happened around 11:35 a.m. Thursday in the area of East Lincoln Highway.
A Subaru sedan veered off the highway and descended 25 feet down the steep embankment, coming to rest near the banks of Mill Creek.
The Subaru went 25 feet down the embankment, said Penndel Fire Company Deputy Chief Sam Simon.

Firefighters used ladders, ropes, and rigging equipment to extricate the driver from the crashed vehicle and bring them up the embankment to the highway level, Simon said.
The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad evaluated the driver following the rescue.

The Penndel Fire Company was assisted at the scene by the Middletown Township Department of Fire and Emergency Services and the Newportville Fire Company.
The incident was one of several calls local firefighters, including the Penndel Fire Company, responded to throughout the holiday.
