A tractor-trailer driver was killed in an early morning crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on the eastbound lanes of the Turnpike near the Newportville Road overpass in Bristol Township.

A tractor-trailer went off the Turnpike bridge and ended up smashed on the ground below, just feet from the banks of the Neshaminy Creek, according to authorities.
The driver was reported to be heavily pinned in the mangled cab.
Several fire companies from the area responded and extricated the driver, but he was found to be deceased.

Newportville Road in the area of the Turnpike bridge remained closed as of sunrise, but the Turnpike had reopened.
It was unclear if other vehicles were involved or just the tractor-trailer.

Pennsylvania State Police were handling the investigation and did not immediately release more information.
