A sleeping family of nine was jolted awake early Friday morning after smoke alarms advised them their house was on fire.

Around 12:35 a.m., the smoke alarms in a home in the 20 block of Aster Lane in Bristol Township’s Levittown section alerted a woman who then woke her husband and seven kids up. They all managed to get out of the burning house.

Fire crews arrived to find the residence ablaze and the family uninjured outside.

Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said the home was heavily damaged and left uninhabitable by the fire, which started in the area of the dryer.

The family has insurance and was being assisted with temporary housing and necessities by the American Red Cross.
