NEARBY: Parx To Furlough 2,200 Employees On Monday

One of the largest employers in Bucks County is temporarily laying off a large number of employees come Monday.

Parx Casino and Parx Racing in Bensalem, which are operated by Greenwood Gaming, plan to furlough just over 2,200 workers, according to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act documents filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

About 2,000 of the workers impacted are employed at the casino in Bensalem.

The closure of the gaming and racing operation is “expected to be temporary in nature due to COVID-19,” the filing with the state reads.

Parx ended live racing and closed its casino and performance center in mid-March as COVID-19 mitigation efforts expanded.

In fiscal year 2019, Parx brought in $639,425,182 through its gambling operation. Its employees come from throughout the region, including a large number from Lower Bucks County.
