
Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick and his staff were not in attendance Wednesday morning when a gunman opened fire during a Republican practice for the upcoming congressional baseball game.
A spokesman for the Middletown-based congressman confirmed the Fitzpatrick and no members of his staff were at the practice in Alexandria, Virginia.

According to CNN, Rep. Steve Scalise, a congressional staff and two U.S. Capitol Police officers were shot when a gunman opened fire at a public park. The exact motive for the shooting and details of the attacker were not immediately clear.

Wednesday’s shooting marks the second time in six years that a congress person has been shot. Then-Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords suffered near-fatal wounds during a public meeting with constituents outside an Arizona grocery store in 2011.
