Six of the Bristol Township School District’s elementary schools closed for good this week.

Clara Barton, John Fitch, Abraham Lincoln, Maple Shade, George Washington and Lafayette elementary schools all saw their final classes on Thursday. Many of the schools held a small event to close their building as the district consolidates into three new, state-of-the-art buildings.

The Mill Creek and Brookwood elementary schools opened for some students in January and Keystone Elementary School in Croydon is prepared to open in September.

When Ralph Waldo Emerson Elementary School on Mill Creek Road and James Buchanan Elementary School on Haines Road closed earlier this year and students moved into the Mill Creek and Brookwood buildings, the classes kept the name of the old school until the end of the school year. The student council at the Mill Creek Road school on Thursday retired the Ralph Waldo Emerson name.

The district still is working to repurpose, sell and/or demolish the six buildings that were closed this week.
