Construction crews are working to complete the Maple Beach Trail extension and parking improvements project in Bristol Borough.

The project includes extending the trail from the new Maple Beach bridge to the waterfront parking lot. Additionally, 10 new parking spaces are being added on Maple Beach Road.
Borough officials said last year that the trail extension aims to improve connectivity within the borough, linking up with the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor and canal trail, as well as the East Coast Greenway.
The added parking spaces are intended to serve both individuals using the trail and those attending the borough’s riverfront festivals.

Last year, Amanda Fuller, who works for the borough’s engineering firm, told the Bristol Borough Council that the parking would provide more capacity during busy riverfront festivals.
“This provides some overflow parking when needed,” she said at the time.

In March, borough officials stated that the work is expected to be finished this summer.
Bristol Borough Council last year approved a $286,866 bid from J and B Construction to complete the work.
A $250,000 state grant is covering the majority of the cost, according to officials.

“It’s a $300,000-plus program that’s costing us under $100,000. It wouldn’t make sense to turn this money down,” Council President Ralph DiGuiseppe said last year when discussing the grant.
