Chief Brian Salt, 36, of Falls Township, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated assault on a child less than 13 years old, and simple assault. As of Friday morning, Salt remained at the Bucks County Correctional Facility unable to post 10 percent of $500,000 bail.

“We are aware of the criminal charges involving Fire Chief Brian Salt. As a result, Chief Salt has been suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. During this challenging time, our thoughts and prayers are with the Salt family,” the fire company said in a statement to LevittownNow.com.

“We understand the impact this situation has on our community, and we are committed to ensuring transparency as we move forward. The safety and well-being of our community remain our top priority, and we will continue to support our firefighters and their families through this challenging time,” the statement added.

The Falls Township fire chief has been charged after authorities say he admitted to allowing his 3-month-old daughter to fall to the ground, resulting in a skull fracture.

The investigation began on March 12, when Falls Township police responded to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for a report of an infant with a skull fracture.

The attending physician determined the injury was caused by substantial force, and the baby also had bruising on her lower right leg and blood in her eye, police said.

The baby’s parents initially told police that the mother had left for work on March 11, leaving the child in Salt’s care. Salt and the baby’s mother stated the infant was fussy and suffered from colic.

Salt initially claimed that when he could not console the crying infant, he took her to his in-laws, who live nearby, and noticed a large, unexplained bump on the back of her head. After consulting with their pediatrician, they took the baby to the hospital, where the skull fracture was discovered. Neither parent could explain how the injury occurred, police said.

However, during a follow-up interview with police on March 20, Salt admitted he let the baby fall to the ground and she struck her head. He told investigators the baby had been crying uncontrollably, and he lost control, investigators said.

Since the start of the year, Salt has been chief of the Falls Township Fire Company, one of three volunteer fire companies that serve the township.
