The Falls Township Board of Supervisors have approved the creation of a nonprofit organization to manage fundraising for community events and initiatives.

The new charity, which is tentatively named “Friends of Falls Township,” will allow for more flexible distribution of funds raised through various township activities, officials said.
Supervisor Chairperson Jeff Dence introduced the proposal last month and explained why it is needed.
“This is essentially us creating a 501(c)(3) charity for events, for any fundraising we do in Falls Township,” Dence said. “Rather than have a fundraising event for… Rather than just give it to this one charity, we’ll raise money and we can give it to whatever we want.”

The nonprofit structure will provide a centralized way to handle proceeds from township-sponsored events that previously may have been earmarked for specific causes, he said.
The supervisors expressed support for the plan, with Supervisor Vice Chairperson Erin Mullen stating she was “glad we’re doing it.”
