Bristol Borough is planning to update its zoning ordinances, zoning map, master plan, and subdivision land development ordinance for the first time in over a decade.

Borough Manager Jim Dillon announced the move at the September council meeting, stating that the documents haven’t been comprehensively updated in “about 10, 12 years.”

To oversee the process, the borough is considering bringing in Lynn Bush, former executive director of the Bucks County Planning Commission.

“Last week, I, along with Sally Bellaspica (the zoning officer) and Councilman [Greg] Pezza, met with Lynn Bush and talked to her about providing council with a proposal to oversee and work with council on updating these various ordinances and zoning maps,” Dillon said.

He added, “I think having her help counsel and Sally will be a tremendous asset for the town.”

Council President Ralph DiGuiseppe expressed support for the program and announced his intention to appoint council members to serve on a zoning board to assist with the updates.

“Once we approve this, I’m going to appoint Mr. Quattrocchi and Mr. Pezza to serve on this zoning board, along with [Council Vice President Betty] Rodriguez. Try to get somebody in every district to try to make this work,” DiGuiseppe said.

“I think we’re on the right track,” DiGuiseppe said.

The council is expecting to receive a proposal from Bush for their consideration at the October meeting.

The 1.9-square-mile borough has just under 10,000 residents and is tightly packed. Development issues can quickly become tense in the riverfront borough.
