Earlier in the month, the man was admitted to the hospital under a mental health warrant and had been involved in several altercations with staff and security personnel, according to police.
The incident escalated when the guard, along with three colleagues, attempted to confine the man to a room after his aggressive behavior intensified. The suspect resisted, assaulting the guard, and throwing punches at others as they pushed him into the room, police said.
Despite the efforts to calm the situation, the guard approached the man and was punched in the head, police said.
