A woman was injured in a cooking fire in Middletown Township Wednesday evening.
A pot of oil being used to cook French fries caught fire around 7 p.m. at a home on Katie Drive. The fire spread in the kitchen and the woman was able to take the burning pot outside, according to authorities.

The woman suffered non-life-threatening burns to her arm and singed hair. The woman was taken by the Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad to St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company Chief Frank Farry said.
One neighbor rushed over with a fire extinguisher and put out the flames, and another neighbor called 9-1-1, Farry said, praising the quick actions of the neighbors.
The fire was put down by the resident with the extinguisher and there was only minor damage to the kitchen, Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said.

McGuire said the fire puts a focus on the importance of having a working fire extinguisher at home. He also said residents should use temperature-controlled deep fryers and not fry food on the stove.
The Newtown Fire Association responded to assist crews.
