With use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine paused as federal authorities and medical experts examine a seemingly rare possible side effect of blood clots, the Bucks County Department of Health announced Wednesday night that the remaining vaccination appointments for the single-shot vaccine are being delayed.
County health officials said 4,700 appointments scheduled for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the county-overseen mass vaccination clinic in a closed grocery store in Warwick Township will be postponed. Since the county halted using the Johnson & Johnson vaccine on Tuesday, 1,800 appointments on Tuesday and Wednesday were previously postponed.

“The county is working to re-schedule this week’s appointments on a two-week delay, offering the same time and day of the week as before,” officials said in a statement.
Discussions at the county-level are underway on what vaccines would be allotted for the reschedule appointments, said Larry King, the county’s top spokesperson.
King said the county-supported vaccination clinics in Bensalem Township, Bristol Township, Newtown Township, and outside of Perkasie use the two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and are not impacted by the Johnson & Johnson pause. The Warwick Township site was the only county-overseen clinic using the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

On Tuesday morning, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration announced a “pause” in use of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine out of an “abundance of caution.” The Pennsylvania Department of Health shortly after ordered vaccinations sites using the vaccine stop until there is more review.
Between the county’s four operating vaccination sites, a single-day record of 3,401 first and second doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were administered on Tuesday. The number was a record for the county.
