The widespread damage and power outages from Wednesday’s derecho continued to its impact well known on Friday.
The Levittown area went from more than 12,500 PECO customers in the dark on Wednesday afternoon to just over 1,860 in the dark by mid-morning Friday.

“We’ve made a lot of progress but there’s a lot more to do,” PECO spokesperson Greg Smore said.
The derecho, a term used by meteorologist to describe a long line of intense and fast-moving storms with lightning, rain, and damaging winds, spread heavy damage and widespread power outages throughout the Philadelphia region.
Most local roads that were closed by downed limbs, lines, and trees reopened by Thursday evening.

Smore said PECO expected to have more than 90 percent of customers who lost power back on by Friday night, adding restoration work will continue through the weekend.
Outside power company crews from Oklahoma, Maine, and Canada were called to the region to assist PECO teams and contractors. The utility is swelling its repair team by 2,700 outside workers due to the storm, Smoke explained.

The spokesperson said that PECO understands the frustration from customers and appreciates customer’s patience.
