A Bristol Borough police officer had to go to the hospital on Christmas morning after he was attacked.

Officers in the borough were called to the 600 block of Spruce Street around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday for a domestic dispute call. They arrived to find Juan Hernandez, 33, of Bristol Borough, who appeared to be highly intoxicated and would not give an officer access to the bedroom where he was located.

Police said a woman was in the bedroom and they wanted to check on her when Hernandez attacked them.

Hernandez had poured alcohol on the floor of the bedroom and attempted to start a fire, police said.

Hernandez was “unruly” and gave officers trouble when they tried to handcuff him, police said.

The 33 year old allegedly bit an officer, causing injuries to his hand and arm, and attempted to grab his firearm.

Officers used a Taser and were able to gain control of Hernandez, police said.

Inside a police cruiser, Hernandez spit on the windows and doors while in custody, police said.

The officer who was bit was treated at Lower Bucks Hospital.

Hernandez was arraigned before sunrise on Christmas on charges on assault of a law enforcement officer, simple assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. He was sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $1.5 million.
