Four Middletown police officers were recognized for three separate incidents this year.
Before the Board of Supervisors earlier this week, officers Glenn McPherson and Christopher Viscardi were recognized for their quick actions as a man threatened to jump from the Bucks County Justice Center Parking Garage in Doylestown Borough on April 5. Chief Joseph Bartorilla said McPherson and Viscardi were in the county seat for a court date. McPherson spotted a man who was making troubling statements and then threatening to jump. The two officers jumped into action and McPherson calmed the man while Viscardi coordinated Doylestown-area and county law enforcement as they responded. After a short time, McPherson got the man to walk away from the edge.

The man was transported to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation, the chief said, calling the officer’s “quick decisive actions” potentially life saving.
Officer Robert Compton was commended for work following two June 16 robberies by the same suspect at the 7-Eleven at the corner of Veterans Highway and New Falls Road. The officer ended up tracking down the suspect and detaining him.
Officer Ryan Morrison’s July 2 traffic stop at Durham and New Falls roads was recognized by the department. The officer noticed a car was tailgating him with its high beams on, which led the lawman to initiate a traffic stop. During the stop, the officer found the driver was intoxicated and one of the passengers was wanted. The wanted man was also found to have a gun and crack cocaine on him.
