UPDATED: Woman Taken Into Custody Following Standoff

12:52 a.m., Tuesday:

The standoff Sunday started with a call for a woman who was armed and threatening suicide.

Police said in a statement that the situation began around 7 p.m. and ended around 11:15 p.m. when negotiators were able to get the 42-year-old woman out of the home.

The woman ended up coming on the front porch of the home after about two hours of no contact and officers in tactical gear ended up taking her into “protective custody.” She was transported by the Bucks County Rescue Squad to Lower Bucks Hospital for an evaluation, police said.

No serious injuries were reported.

At the start of the incident, responding officers confirmed the 42 year old was inside the residence in the 300 block of Washington Street between Pond and Wood streets. She was armed with a handgun and threatening suicide. The SWAT team made up of officers from Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, Bensalem, and Falls Township officers was called to the scene, police said.

A neighbor, who did not wish to have their name published, said police shined a spotlight on the home where the woman was as officers attempted to make contact with her.

About 20 nearby residents were eventuated from their homes and temporarily housed at the St. Ann Catholic Church down the street.

“Bristol Borough Police would like to thank the affected borough residents for their cooperation and patience during this tense situation,” Chief of Police Steve Henry said.

In addition to the SWAT team, borough police thanked the Bristol Borough Fire Police, local fire companies, the emergency management department, and Tullytown police for their response.

11:54 p.m., Monday:

The standoff in Bristol Borough ended around 11:15 p.m. Monday with a person being taken by an ambulance.

The person’s condition was unknown as of press time.

The incident came after about three hours of police being at the scene, neighbors said.

Officers in tactical gear handled a developing situation in the area of Washington Street in Bristol Borough Monday night.

According to residents and sources, the incident appeared to be centered at a home in the 300 block of Washington Street between Pond and Wood streets. Police were on the scene from late evening into the late night.

The scene appeared to quiet down around 11:15 p.m., but it was unclear whether it has been resolved.

As the night moved along, officers in tactical gear from multiple police departments staged in the parking lot behind the St. Ann Catholic Church at Pond and Washington streets. The SWAT officers put their gear on and headed to a police command post. Medics also waited nearby.

A Washington Street resident said an emergency responder told them a neighbor was barricaded in their home. In addition, they stated that some residents were relocated until the situation ended.

Authorities didn’t immediately comment on the incident.
