A sign for what appears to be an upstart seafood chain has gone up at a recently closed diner.
A sign advertising the future home of Crab Du Jour went up this week at the shuttered Great American Diner and Pub at the corner of Veterans Highway (Route 413) and East Lincoln Highway in Middletown’s Levittown section.

An email and call to contact information associated with the Crab Du Jour were not immediately returned. No cars appeared in the eatery parking lot on Wednesday.
The website for Crab Du Jour, which was registered the day Great American Diner and Pub closed in late April, advertises that the eatery uses different types of seafood in its recipes. The website notes the planned “Southern charm” for the restaurant.
Crab Du Jour lists 11 other locations that are planned, including in Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Little Rock, Arkansas; Hoover, Alabama; and Delran, New Jersey.

The 5,500-square-foot eatery that sits on a two-acre corner property was sold from SAMS RT 73 LLC to 1201 (One) E. Lincoln Hwy LLC in December of last year for $2.4 million, property records stated. The latest sale was about a million dollars less than the previous sale in 2006.
Records from the state indicate that the Great American Diner and Pub’s liquor license as expired.

In recent years, Great American Diner and Pub did not appear as busy as it once did. Former employees and customers said following its closure that new management came along with a decline in service.
