In an effort to make guests feel safer and to prevent inappropriate park behavior, the Falls Township Board of Supervisors has awarded a bid to install lights and cameras at Quaker Penn Park. The lights and five or six cameras would be placed at the park’s entrance, as well as locations throughout the park.
RF Design and Installation of Bensalem was the second-lowest of four bidders at $62,858. The lowest bidder had too many errors in the submission, according to Falls Township attorney Lauren Gallagher, and the bid was rejected. The project was put out to bid in October.

In an effort to get the project moving, public works employees have already installed the underground electrical conduit and light pole bases.
Public Works Director Jason Lawson said the improvements coincide with the upgrades carried out at Quaker Penn Park last year, including riverfront cleanup, which involved the removal of dead trees to provide for a better view. In addition, a new playground and swings were installed, as well as picnic tables placed closer to the river and three compost toilet facilities.
“We’re hoping the public will use it more,” Lawson said of the park, which had been primarily used for its boat ramp. “Hopefully Quaker Penn will become the next community park.”

Seventy-five percent of the total of park improvements have been funded by a Bucks County open space grant. Falls Township will foot the bill for the remainder.
