A power surge was to blame for a fire in a Bristol Township home.
The fire happened around 5:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Border Rock Road in the Levittown section Monday. The residents were home and reported a loud bang outside their residence, leading to a light bulb exploding in their kitchen. Smoke and fire were then spotted coming from the circuit breaker panel in the master bedroom, according to the fire marshal’s office.

Fire damaged the master bedroom and smoke impacted the rest of the home.
Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said the power surge from a downed 34,000 volt power line behind the home caused the fire.
PECO crews secured power to the damaged home and restored service to nearby customers who were left in the dark, Dippolito said.
