A Bristol Township man was before a New Jersey judge this week for attempting to murder a woman in an Atlantic City parking garage last summer.
David Legette, 54, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a single county of attempted murder, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Legette will be sentenced on July 20 to 16 years in a New Jersey state prison. He will also be subject to the No Early Release Act and upon release will be subject to five years of parole, prosecutors said.
Authorities said that Legette met up with a Pennsylvania woman who had a restraining order against him from a previous relationship on the night of July 2.
Around 10 p.m., Legette and the woman were in a vehicle in the parking garage of Caesar’s casino when he pulled out a knife and stabbed her 19 times. He then child-locked the car doors to block her escape.

While Legette was driving down Atlantic Avenue, witnesses saw the woman throw herself from the vehicle.
The woman suffered numerous stab wounds. She suffered an eviscerated intestine, a lacerated liver, and spleen.

Legette sped away and left the injured woman.
The woman identified Legette to police as the person who attacked her.
On July 20, Legette was arrested in Bristol and his vehicle was impounded.

An investigation uncovered the woman’s DNA inside Legette’s vehicle.
Atlantic County investigators said the Bristol Township Police Department assisted in the investigation.

Legette, according to Bucks County court records, has previous drug and simple assault convictions stemming from incidents in Lower Bucks County. His record dates back to the 1980s.
