A Bristol Township man has been charged with crashing his car into a Levittown residence while overdosing on New Year’s Eve.
Edward John O’Brien Jr., 22, was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle, DUI, simple assault, reckless endangerment and related offenses. He was arraigned at 12:50 a.m. New Year’s Day and sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $1 million.

According to court papers, O’Brien smashed his car into an occupied home on Gun Road in Bristol Township’s Levittown section around 6:10 p.m. with the 2016 Honda Civic he was operating. He left the roadway and his Honda smashed into the home’s living room where the male and female residents were sitting.
The male resident was thrown from a chair and slashed his head on the sliding glass door frame, cutting his forehead. He was rushed to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown and received 16 staples to his head, police said.
The woman escaped serious injury by getting off the sofa that was in the Honda’s path, police said.

In the crash, the family’s yellow Labrador retriever escaped the home and ran to Edgely Road, where a passing vehicle struck and killed it. The vehicle that hit the dog did not stop, police said.
O’Brien had to be administered doses of opioid antidote naloxone by police once they arrived. He was then taken to Lower Bucks Hospital and released later at night, police said.

During the investigation, police said O’Brien told them he stopped his car and injected heroin before continuing driving. He reportedly did not remember what happened following that.
A baggie with suspected heroin residue was found in his pocket, police said.
In a press release shortly after the crash, authorities said O’Brien was already wanted on a warrant.
