Falls Township’s annual Que for the Troops Barbecue competition looks to be bigger this year as 75 contenders take to Falls Township Community Park June 2-3 to vie for trophies and cash prizes in a Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned event.

The eighth annual event began as a friendly neighborhood competition for BBQ bragging rights, according to organizer and Falls Township Supervisors Vice Chairman Jeffry Dence. Que has since grown to a two-day joint fundraiser and Family Festival, which draws dozens of contenders and thousands of spectators. Primarily through event sponsorships and contributions, Que for the Troops benefits Liberty USO, a nonprofit organization which serves the needs of active duty, National Guard and reserve military personnel and their families throughout Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.
In 2016, 67 teams competed to be chosen best in their respective BBQ categories. So far, 50 have registered for the 2017 event and organizers hope 75 will compete in all.
BBQ competitors from all over the country duke it out in chicken, pork, pork ribs and brisket categories. Up for grabs is more than $7,000 in prize money. Contenders can also vie for the optional Anything Butt and dessert competitions.

In addition to BBQ and awards presentations, participants can enjoy a car show hosted by the Delaware Valley Roadrunners, as well as craft and food vendors, sand art, a craft station, face painting, balloon artists, children’s bouncies, live music, a police K9 demonstration and fireworks at dusk.
