If grant money comes through, Bristol Township hopes to construct a splash park and a handicap accessible playground.
The Council last week voted to give township officials authorization to submit Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural grant applications to help fund the two proposed recreation facilities.

The splash park would include a pad, water nozzles, ground spray and other water features. Assistant Township Manager Scott Swichar explained to Council last week that the proposed play area would include a water filtration system and would recirculate water, keeping waste down.
The location of the proposed splash pad would have to be near existing water and sewer lines. Currently, Firemen’s Park in the Stonybrook neighborhood and Policemen’s Park off Emilie Road near Indian Creek are being considered because they have the proper infrastructure, Swichar said.
“It won’t be huge, but it will be something. We’ve lost the pools over the years,” Council President Craig Bowen said.

Township Manager Bill McCauley said many towns are moving away from pools due to the operating costs and liabilities.
The handicap accessible playground would be added to one of the township’s existing parks and would be welcoming to children of all ability levels, officials said.

The costs of the proposed parks are being tallied and officials hope will be funded by grants.
The proposal comes amid a year when the township is working to expand their parks and recreational offerings. The township is currently looking to hiring a full-time parks director to expand program offerings.
Bowen said the park proposals are next in line after several rounds of township infrastructure upgrades.
