A card reader and keypad, known as illegal skimming devices, was recently discovered by a customer at a 7-Elven ATM location in Bristol Township, according to police.
The device was reported by an employee of the 7-Eleven at 293 Bristol Pike in the Croydon section on Thursday, January 19. The employee reported that a customer had discovered an illegal card reader and keypad attached to the ATM.

The illegal skimming devices were removed and submitted into evidence by Bristol Township police.
Locals are encouraged to investigate all ATMs for illegal skimming devices before use. Anyone with information about the card reader and keypad found is encouraged to contact Bristol Township Detective William O’Keefe at 267-812-3066.
The FBI has the following tips on how to avoid card skimmers:
- Inspect the ATM, gas pump, or credit card reader before using it. Be suspicious if you see anything loose, crooked, or damaged, or if you notice scratches or adhesive/tape residue.
- When entering your PIN, block the keypad with your other hand to prevent possible hidden cameras from recording your number.
- If possible, use an ATM at an inside location (less access for criminals to install skimmers).
- Be careful of ATMs in tourist areas. They are a popular target of skimmers.
- If your card isn’t returned after the transaction or after hitting “cancel,” immediately contact the financial institution that issued the card.
