The annual fire prevention and education event hosted by the Tullytown Fire Company has grown since its early days. Now, hundreds of people come to the parking lot of the Levittown Home Depot to attend the yearly event that features demonstrations and a sizeable number of Bucks County fire departments.
The Saturday event featured a number of demonstrations and activities, including a smoke trailer, an automotive extrication exercise, a demonstration on how to put out a kitchen fire and information on how firefighters put out a burning structure.

“It started a bit smaller, but we add things to it each and every year,” said Dale Mastrull, the chief of the fire company. “We wouldn’t be able to do as much if we were still just in our station.”
The day serves not only to educate both parents and kids but also to create a relationship between emergency personnel and kids.
Since its inception, the annual education day has attracted between 300 to 500 people. Saturday was no different, despite the rain, which threatened the event throughout the day.

If there is one thing that Mastrull would tell people who couldn’t attend the education day, it would be to make sure that all smoke alarms are working and for all members of the family to know at least two reliable ways out of the house in case of emergency.
The fire department isn’t finished for fire prevention month. On October 14, members of the company will be going to St. Mikes and Walt Disney Elementary to talk to young kids about fire prevention and safety.
