A new ice cream and sandwich shop in Bristol Borough is bringing back the vibe of an era long past.

Bernie Dascendis’ Lets Go To The Hop at 2 Pond Street by the Mill Street parking lot had its grand opening during May’s First Friday event. The shop offers “old school Italian sandwiches” as well as tasty ice cream. Some of these sandwiches include broccoli rabe, eggplant parm, sausage with onion and peppers d other classic sandwiches.

“I figured that with some hard work and long hours, it could come together. Its been 100 percent positive, the whole time,” Dascendis said of the positive reviews.

The journey to The Hop, which was formerly occupied by the Pinky’s Corner, started months ago when Dascendis was looking for a nearby tavern to buy. The Hop’s location in Bristiol’s central business district was up for sale, so he jumped at the opportunity. Since February, Dascendis has been working out the kinks and refurbishing the building to suit the new business’ needs.

Dascendis brings years of food expertise to The Hop. Over the years, he has run a number of different food truck-type services, such as a french fry trailer. Now, he is bringing it all together to give Bristol a place to get ice cream and sandwiches that are area staples.

To add to the retro atmosphere, 1950s and 1960s music will be played at The Hop. Dascendis said he also has a number of giveaways and special nights planned. In the near future, there will be a night for musicians to come and play for customers.

Dascendis noted that The Hop will provide ice cream to Bristol, which has extremely limited choices for frozen treats.

The Hop opens at 6 a.m. with Wawa coffee and will stay open until 10 p.m. or later if there is a demand, according to Dascendis.
