Crews have begun demolition work on two closed Bristol Township elementary schools.
A large excavator began pulling down the walls of Ralph Waldo Emerson Elementary School on Mill Creek Road in Levittown this week. By late in the afternoon Thursday, several classrooms were reduced to a large pile of rubble.

Workers have gutted the buildings in the months since they closed. The new Brookwood Elementary School on Haines Road and Mill Creek Elementary School on Mill Creek Road opened to students of the two closed schools in January.
At James Buchanan Elementary School on Haines Road in Levittown, old desks, chairs and other classroom furniture sat outside in preparation for demolition of the structure that served students for decades.
Once both schools are cleared, the land will be used as parking and open space in front of the new buildings.
