Plans for a proposed hazardous waste treatment facility in Falls Township remain in the Department of Environmental Protections’ Phase I evaluation.Yet, Bristol Township Council Vice President Amber Longhitano is taking steps to protect her neighbors in Bristol Township if the plans come to fruition.
Longhitano made a motion Wednesday evening that asks the Township Manager Bill McCauley to construct a letter to the DEP as well as state representatives. The letter would instruct that Elcon truck operators find an alternative route to the proposed Falls facility, taking them off township roads when delivering hazardous waste.

The current plans of travel call for trucks to leave the I95 corridor at the Bristol exit and travel down Route 13 several miles to Tyburn Road where they would arrive at the Elcon facility in the Keystone Industrial Port Complex
Longhitano referenced that her motion was a proactive measure to help build up the value of an area the council has worked so hard to revitalize. “We have lights, we’re beautifying, we’re trying to bring business in, we’re trying to finally get that straight,” she said. “So we figure that we need to keep them all off of Route 13, they can get to Tyburn Road via I-95 and Route 1.”
Earlier in the week another entity, the Philadelphia Water Department, released a study claiming the proposed facility, which would treat liquid hazardous waste, could put millions in the area at risk by contaminating area drinking water. Click here to read the PWD’s report.

Area residents of neighboring Falls Township have battled the proposed facility for over a year, while Elcon maintains it’s solving a problem with treatment facilities by making the process “clean, green, and sustainable”.
