Law enforcement from Bucks County, New Jersey and the federal government were involved in a car chase that ended in Penndel Tuesday afternoon.

According to authorities, a man in a Lexus was being chased by Mercer County, New Jersey authorities, U.S. Marshals and Bensalem police late in the afternoon. The chase traveled through Bensalem to Route 1 in Middletown and onto West Lincoln Highway before ending in a crash at the corner of West Lincoln Highway and Hulmeville Avenue in Penndel around 4:15 p.m.

The suspect was taken into custody, according to police radio reports.

Penndel Chief of Police Joseph Sciscio said the chase ended when the suspect’s car struck a civilian’s vehicle in the borough.

“We are investigating the crash and charges will be filed, if appropriate,” he said.

Middletown Chief of Police Joseph Bartorilla and Sciscio both said they did not have information on why the suspect was being chased. A Mercer County sheriff deputy in plainclothes forwarded LevittowNow.com’s request for comment to a commanding officer.

It was not confirmed if a reported vehicle crash in Bensalem was connected to the chase or just happened around the same time. However, a dark-colored police SUV with New Jersey tags and front-end damage followed a tow truck carrying a white pickup truck as it left the scene.
