Family Displaced After Attic Fire

An attic fire damaged a house in Middletown Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the 300 block of Delaware Avenue at 1:48 p.m. for a fire investigation. Within a minute, the call was upgraded to a working house fire, officials said.

The homeowner left the house shortly before the fire and returned after forgetting something. Upon arrival, they discovered flames coming from the roof, Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said.

Arriving fire crews found flames shooting from the attic and began fighting them. After a short period of time, the blaze was brought under control.

McGuire said the fire damage was contained mainly to the attic, but the rest of the home suffered water damage.

The fire marshal said the flames started in the area of an attic exhaust fan and appeared accidental. The homeowner did not report noticing any issues before leaving, McGuire said.

The home’s residents were seen retrieving personal belongings from the fire-damaged structure as emergency personnel cleaned up their equipment.

No injuries were reported.
