Police in Bristol borough and township have been awarded more doses of a life-saving  anti-opioid overdose antidote Naloxone, more commonly known as Narcan.

The grant from Kaleo Pharmaceuticals comes after an initial roll-out of the antidote earlier this year. Through a mutual assistance agreement, Bristol Township and Bristol Borough police will share the doses.

Kaleo’s grant will allow police to receive 400 doses of the EVZIO auto-injectors preloaded with Narcan, according to Bristol Township authorities. The value of the doses is roughly $96,000.

Bristol Township’s injectors, which were purchased through a grant, instruct officers how to use the device on the victim of an overdose. Many surrounding towns use nasal atomisers to administer Narcan.

Kaleo has been impressed with Bristol Township’s use of their product since officers received it in spring, police said.

“It’s clear – heroin kills and Narcan saves,” Bucks County’s Chief of Prosecution Matt Weintraub told reporters earlier this year.
