A Year Later, Families Of Bristol Twp. Shooting Victims Look For Closure

Rose Wilson still finds it hard to drive by 913 Winder Drive, the site of a triple shooting that left her 31-year-old grandson Tyrone Moss dead.

One year after the unsolved shooting, she returned with about three dozen others for a short vigil to remember the lives lost.

The Bristol Township shooting left Moss and his close friend Joshua Johnson, 29, dead. Their friend Lamel Duffy, now 25, survived but has since moved away from Bristol Township.

“[Tyrone] wasn’t perfect,” Rose Wilson softly said, “but he would do anything for anyone. After Josh’s brother, Maurice, was killed Iraq, he made a promise to keep an eye on Josh.”

Moss, a father of two young children, and Johnson, who had one young child, were hanging out with Duffy and others throughout the night. Around 12:30 a.m. on July 8, 2014, one or multiple people entered the residence and began their assault. A search warrant obtained by LevittownNow.com last summer noted Moss was found dead on the living room floor of the house with his hands bound with zip ties behind his back and wheelchair-bound Johnson was found on the dinning room floor bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. Duffy, suffering from a gunshot wound, managed to escape and get help.

After arriving at the scene and attempting to provide medical care to the victims, responding officers noted a “strong odor of burnt marijuana in the home.” Outside, a surveillance camera was missing, according to the search warrant.

“We don’t believe this shooting was random,” Lt. Terry Hughes said in the weeks following the crime.

Acting Lt. Ralph Johnson said in late spring that while the shooting remains unsolved, police have investigated new leads. As of Thursday morning, no one has been charged or identified as a suspect.

“They didn’t deserve this,” one mourner said Wednesday. “No matter what, no one deserves this.”

Lakeenia Gary, whose boyfriend was close friends with Johnson, said she still beeps three to five times when she drives by 913 Winder Drive. “I want them to know I’m saying ‘what’s up.”

Johnson’s sister, Mia Debious said she still misses her brother. On occasion, she has picked flowers from the yard of 913 Winder Drive to keep on her desk as a reminder.

“We know the cops are doing their jobs,” Kim Wilson, Moss’ aunt, said. “But it still hurts. It’s like you can’t rest, like your getting that phone call every night.”

After a short vigil and march down Winder Drive, Sheree Wilson, who is related to Moss, handed out fliers from the Citizens Crime Commission announcing a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murders.

Rose Wilson said Moss’ grandfather walked all around the neighborhood every single day hoping he could find some clue that would lead to the person(s) who shot his grandson. Around Easter, he passed away, his family says it was due to a broken heart.

Family and friends of the victims say they just want closure.

“We don’t want any retaliation,” Kim Wilson told the mourners. “We just want justice.”
