Heroes received recognition on Monday night at the Bristol Borough Council agenda meeting.
Councilman Greg Pezza and fire Chief Herb Slack presented the recognition ceremony. Recognized personnel were Rosie Torres, Aniela Skwarek, Michael Misavage from Bristol Fire Company No. 1 (Station 51.) Bucks County Rescue Squad members Doug Wargny, Andrew Hartnett and Joseph Tomzak were recognized along with Sgt. Pete Faight and Officer Elifa Soto from the police department.

The council recognized emergency workers who responded in mid-January to save two-and-a-half-year-old Kennedy Grace Kasperitis’ life. Kasperitis had stopped breathing in her home on Pond Street. Within two minutes, Bristol Borough police Sgt. Pete Faight and Patrolman Soto arrived at the house and started administering rescue breaths.
Two minutes later, at 6:16 p.m., the Bristol Fire Company Quick Response Unit arrived and set up supplemental oxygen for Kasperitis. She was transported to Lower Bucks Hospital, and eventually to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. After spending “several” days in the hospital, Kasperitis returned home.
“The close team work and outstanding efforts of the police, fire company and the rescue squad personnel quickly and efficiently provided critical patient care and transported Kennedy to the hospital where doctors continued to provide the care necessary to make a difference,” Pezza said during the recognition ceremony at the meeting.

“That day was very hard for us. I can’t say anything more than thank you,” said Kasperitis’ mother, Samantha Kasperitis.
In addition to the recognition ceremony, Bristol Borough Council has dedicated January 12, 2015, the day of the incident, as Kennedy Grace Kasperitis Day.
