Following the tragic death of a Pennsbury High School student, Tullytown police will be holding a free bicycle safety program for residents.

The police department will host the program for children age 8 years old and over on three consecutive Saturdays in May, starting May 2, officials said. The program will run from 10 a.m. until noon.

The program came about following the death of 15-year-old Levittown resident Zachary Gonzalez, who was struck and killed as he rode his bicycle with friends along Route 13 in Tullytown last year. Brian Patterson of Bristol was sentenced to jail  for being under the influence of drugs at the time his black VW struck and killed the teen. Much to the dismay of those who loved Gonzalez, Patterson could not be charged with vehicular homicide because “no chargeable violations were found in relation to the crash causation,” according to court papers filed by authorities.

Those interested in registering their child for the program should contact the police department secretary at 215-945-0999 or police@tullytownboro.org.
