
A Levittown woman fought off an armed robber Saturday, Newtown Township police say.
According to investigators, the 57-year-old Levittown woman was confronted by 28-year-old Christopher W. Cheshire in the parking lot of the Newtown Shopping Center around 12:50 p.m. Saturday. Cheshire allegedly pointed what appeared to be handgun at the woman and demanded her purse.

The Levittown woman refused and confronted Cheshire, police said.
A bystander, who heard yelling coming from the confrontation, obtained a description and tag number on the vehicle Cheshire fled in, police said.
Through the witness description, Newtown police were able to identify Cheshire as the suspect and began working up an arrest warrant.

Shortly before 7 p.m., officers were called to Newtown Shopping Center for a traffic accident near the Acme.
An investigating officer discovered Cheshire was involved in the crash. He was arrested and his vehicle impounded, police said.

A BB gun was found in the driver’s side of his car. The gun was seized as evidence, police said.
Authorities reported Cheshire is a resident of Wrightstown, but police found his drivers license showed he lived in Malvern, Pa.
Cheshire was arraigned by District Judge William J. Benz on charges of robbery, possession of an instrument of a crime, theft, attempted theft, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. He was remanded to Bucks County prison on 10 percent of $100,000.
