Work on Trenton-Morrisville Toll Bridge to Begin Monday

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission this week announced that construction activities are poised to kick off Monday morning on a roughly three-month-long project that will make various repairs and improvements to the approach bridges, roadways, and ramps in the vicinity of the Trenton-Morrisville (Route 1) Toll Bridge.

To carry out the work, non-peak single-lane closures will be utilized along both directions of the Commission’s Route 1 jurisdiction Mondays through Saturdays. The construction-related travel restrictions are scheduled to commence Monday, August 4, and will occur as follows:

• Southbound – 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays.
• Northbound – 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays.

The six-days-a-week lane closure periods listed above are expected to be utilized along Route 1 near the toll bridge until the end of October.

The travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, and traffic considerations. Motorists should reduce their speeds whenever traveling through designated work zones.

Entitled the Trenton-Morrisville Toll Bridge Approach Roadways Improvement Project, the capital program initiative will address a litany of conditions and issues cited in the Commission’s 2013 Annual Inspections Report and verified in follow-up field investigations by the Commission’s engineering staff and the agency’s Capital Program Management Consultant.

The project will entail 15 separate construction tasks at the toll bridge, the Route 1/Pennsylvania Avenue interchange in Morrisville, the Route 29 to Route 1 ramp in Trenton, the Ferry Street/Route 29 exit off Route 1 in Trenton, and 10 approach bridges and ramps that carry traffic to and from the toll bridge.

Additional travel-restriction updates – such as for future ramp closures and corresponding detours – will be issued at the appropriate time as project work advances.
