Police arrived in the morning to continue their investigation into 30-year-old Thomas Piscione and the alleged bomb lab he operated out of the single-story William Levitt-built home he has owned for the past several years.

By late afternoon, police Lt. Terry Hughes confirmed that investigators and a company contracted to remove dangerous chemicals from the house had finished their work. A man was seen cleaning from glass from the front of the house just before 4 p.m.
Hughes said investigators removed firearms, including a handgun, revolver and shotgun, from the home along with large amounts of ammunition and shotgun shells. Blow darts, a pellet gun, four knifes, treated pipes with caps, ball bearings, fire crackers, brass knuckles, a large amount of one-ounce containers and various chemicals often used to build explosives along with books on bombs and serial killers were also taken from the house. Police obtained a search warrant hours after Piscione’s arrest and began searching the house Monday afternoon.
The 30-year-old, according to Hughes, appeared to be making an explosive device in a homemade lab. The lab featured three benches, glass beakers and various other pieces of equipment.

Piscione was charged Monday afternoon with risking catastrophe, and recklessly endangering another person following a suspected experiment with chemical ammonium nitrate went wrong shortly after 1 a.m. The incident caused an explosion that blew out windows, popped nails and damaged the brick fireplace where the blast happened. Authorities wrote in court documents that a suspected working bomb-making lab was located in the back bedroom with precursor chemicals for bomb making. Piscione is in county jail on 10 percent of $1 million dollars bail.

Hughes said while the investigation into the explosion that left Piscione with only minor injuries is over, the investigation into Piscione’s motive and suspected bomb lab remains active. He confirmed that more charges are expected against Piscione.
“We’re looking into this much further,” the lieutenant said.
Two neighbors, who asked not to be named, said that Piscione was quiet and they had no indication he was building bombs. Police have said Piscione lived alone.
